Wimbledon Day 4 Review
Wimbledon Tennis Championship is fully under way now. Although the rain keeps interrupting matches and some times whole rounds. Still, despite the fact that the rain suspended play on several occasions on Day 4 there were almost no rescheduling of matches from the second round. Almost. From all of the matches from the second round in the singles tournament from both genders only seven have to be played on a day intended for third round matches.
The pairs of Jurgen Melzer and Dmitry Tursonov, Igor Andreev and Bernand Tomic, and David Ferer and Ryan Harrison have yet to finish their matches from the second round of the tournament. Melzer leads 2 set to 1 to Tursonov with game a piece in the fourth. Igor Andreev leads with the same result to Bernand Tomic, but the fourth set hadn't started. David Ferrer from Spain is trailing one set to two to Ryan Harrison from USA, but leads 4-2 games in the fourth, before their contest on resumes.
Day 4 offer very little surprises in the men's singles tournament. The biggest upset of the day was the lost of Viktor Troici from Serbia, seeded number 13 in the draw. He lost in straight sets to Yen-Hsun Lu from Taiwan. Another interesting result was the defeat of the former Wimbledon champion Leyton Hewitt in his match against Robin Soderling. Hewitt was leading 2 sets to love, but the strong-hitting Swede managed to turn things around and eventually win the encounter 3 to 2 sets.
Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro and David Nalbandian had very little troubles moving on to the next round of the competition. However the same cannot be said about Jo-Wilfred Tsonga who was playing Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria. Tsonga managed to squeeze in the next round despite the young Bulgarian best efforts. Dimitrov won the first set but lost the next three.
The biggest upset in the women's singles tournament was the defeat that this year's Roland Garros champion Na Li suffered in her encounter with young German Sabina Lisicki. The defending champion Serena Williams spare herself some blushes and won her match against Simona Halep from Romania, after she was a set down. The rest of the matches offered almost no surprises with Anna Ivanovic, Maria Kirilenko, Franceska Sciavone, and Svetlana Kuznetsova all winning their matches in straight sets.
