How does the Tennis Master Cup and Sony Ericsson Championships work?

I heard about Round Robin or something...

The procedure works like this, 8 best players on the tour compete all year for the qualification of these prestigious year end events.

The Race to these evnents starts afresh every year and the 8 players with the maximum points at the end of all events before the masters cup qualify for the event, in case some 1 who had qualified for the event withdraws the player next to him will be given a chance to replace him in the event.

There are also exceptions to the rule if a player is not in top 8 in the yearly race but is in top 10 and has won a major he will qualify for the event at the expense of the guy ranked no 8 in the race that happened in 2004 when Aggasi was no 8 in the race but Gaudio qualified by virtue of winning the French open despite the fact that Gaudio was no 10 at that time.

These are both round Robin events unlike other events on WTA and ATP, there are 2 groups consisting of 4 players each, so all players get to play 3 matches in the round robin phase.

The two top players from a group qualify for the Sf winner of Group A faces runner up of Group B and Winner of Group B faces the runner up of group A.

Points are also awarded for every match 100 points for every round robin win, 200 for SF and 250 for the Final so a maximum of 750 points are up for grabs for both events.
