Games Approach to Coaching Tennis Video (Copyright 2002) (VHS) $25.95 Games Approach to Coaching Tennis is the newest addition to the American Sport Education Program's (ASEP) Games Approach to Coaching Sport video series. The Games Approach to Coaching Tennis video presents a more in-depth look at the games approach to coaching, which is discussed in the Coaching Youth Tennis book. This revolutionary coaching technique emphasizes learning through play, and it helps coaches create an even more successful tennis experience for their players. Detailed demonstrations of 14 games will help you teach essential tennis tactics for singles and doubles play at the beginning adult and youth levels. In addition to learning the games, coaches and instructors can learn how to: modify games to focus on particular skills and tactics; adjust the difficulty depending on athletes' needs; assess players as they play; actively involve players in the learning process; and teach and refine tennis skills and strategies. Developed in conjunction with the USTA and used in the USA 1,2,3 Instructional Skills Program and USA Team Tennis, the Games Approach to Coaching Tennis video shows you how to teach tennis tactics more effectively than the traditional drills first, play later approach. In the games approach, players participate in modified games rather than repetitive drills. As they play, they learn the tactics and understand how to apply them in a game situation. Players have fun and are motivated to practice in these small-sided games. The Games Approach to Coaching Tennis video helps coaches and instructors discover a great way to coach tennis skills and tactics, and it provides a fun and rewarding experience for their players. Networking and Online Games $110 The computer game industry is clearly growing in the direction of multiplayer, online games. Understanding the demands of games on IP (Internet Protocol) networks is essential for ISP (Internet Service Provider) engineers to develop appropriate IP services. Correspondingly, knowledge of the underlying network's capabilities is vital for game developers. Networking and Online Games concisely draws together and illustrates the overlapping and interacting technical concerns of these sectors. The text explains the principles behind modern multiplayer communication systems and the techniques underlying contemporary networked games. The traffic patterns that modern games impose on networks, and how network performance and service level limitations impact on game designers and player experiences, are covered in-depth, giving the reader the knowledge necessary to develop better gaming products and network services. Examples of real-world multiplayer online games illustrate the theory throughout. Networking and Online Games::; Provides a comprehensive, cutting-edge guide to the development and service provision needs of online, networked games.; Contrasts the considerations of ISPs (e.g. predicting traffic loads) with those of game developers (e.g. sources of lag/jitter), clarifying coinciding requirements.; Explains how different technologies such as cable, ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and wireless, etc., affect online game-play experience, and how different game styles impose varying traffic dynamics and requirements on the network.; Discusses future directions brought by emerging technologies such as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), Wireless LANs, IP service Quality, and NAPT/NAT (Network Address Port Translation/Network Address Translation); Illustrates the concepts using high-level examples of existing multiplayer online games (such as Quake III Arena, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and Half-Life 2). Networking and Online Games will be an invaluable resource for games developers, engineers and technicians at Internet Service Providers, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Multimedia Engineering. |

Movement Training For Tennis Video (Copyright 1990) (VHS) $31.95 How can players set themselves up to hit perfect returns like the pros? Let Jack Groppel, Lynne Rolley, Stan Smith, and Nick Saviano show you in Movement Training for Tennis. Developed through the expertise of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Sport Science Committee, this video presents a progression of drills to help players at any level add explosive movement to their game. World-renowned tennis coach Dr. Jack Groppel enlists the aid of USTA tennis experts to show coaches, instructors, and players how reaction time and movement time result in explosive speed. This concept involves the player's seeing the ball off the opponent's racket (reaction time), adding an immediate split-step toward the ball (movement time), and completing the execution of the shot with a rapid release of energy (explosive movement). In Part I of this video, players start off with warm-up drills to prevent injury. Next, there's a progression of sport-specific drills designed to help players improve shot anticipation, initial take-off, footwork, body position, and recovery time after hitting the shot. Players will progress from short speed drills to more complex drills that incorporate lateral and horizontal movements. In Part II, the unique sliding techniques required to play effectively on clay is demonstrated. Players will learn how to step into the slide before executing the stroke, how to recover after the shot, and how to maintain balance throughout. Movement Training for Tennis is a valuable tool in helping players use movement to stay on top of their opponents' shots during match play and get the winning edge. Tennis Tips: Approach Shot With Video Demonstration
Approach shots are often meant to be taken advantage of to win the point over an opponent. This video tennis lesson will provide you a guide and demonstration on how to put away a short ball to win the point. Are you approaching these short balls to win the point against your opponent? Watch the video and read on for a better judgment.
Now for those that would appreciate this demonstration in paragraph form, here it is. It will give you tips of what to do and what to avoid when going after these approach shots.
An approach shot is when your opponent gives you a short ball, causing you to run up closer to the net. The next few tennis tips explain the importance of how putting away these approach shots will give you the advantage over your opponent.
When you approach the ball, be sure to put your weight forward and into the ball. This will give you more power and control over the ball.
The video instruction talks about this particular motion of putting your weight forward and into the ball comparable to thinking of superman taking off or an airplane taking off into the air. There's an important forward motion from either example. This makes your shot more aggressive and powerful.
It is important to be prepared in the game of tennis. With this said, when approaching a short ball, be sure to have your racket back ready to swing. This will give you more time and a better shot.
Take advantage of the short ball. Do not tap the ball back; be aggressive and put full force onto the ball. Beginners tend to be pushers and think of simply getting the ball back. But to win the point, you have to think about putting away these approach shots.
Another important aspect of this shot would be your footwork. But then again, footwork is the key to tennis. Once you lose your footwork, you've lost control of the game.
There are many other factors that could affect your success in hitting an approach shot. Getting critiques on your shots will definitely help in improving your game. You can submit your videos for a free critique here to give you an idea on what is correct and what needs improvement. This will definitely help you learn to hit an approach shot with an advantage.

When will we get the full schedule (who's playing whom in the opening matches) of tennis US Open 2010 finals?
Not for quite awhile. The draw for Grand Slams doesn't come out until the Friday before they begin so in this case that would be August 27th. The seeds come out the Monday before that, so we'll know who MIGHT play each other in the quarterfinals/semi-finals perhaps from those. For example, if Roger Federer drops out of the top 4 before the Open makes it seeds, which is possible, we'll know if the U.S. Open decided to seed him in the top 4 even though he wouldn't reside there in the rankings. If the Open did decide to do something like that then that would eliminate the possibility of an inconceivable quarterfinal clash between Rafael Nadal and Federer.
