For your fantastic Australian holiday, stay at a Melbourne hotel
The state capital of Victoria, Melbourne is Australia's second largest city and a really popular holiday destination for travellers to the Antipodes. Situated on the estuary of the magnificent Yarra River, this great city is often called the cultural capital of Australia. The most practical way to get to Melbourne is by air, as it has a large international airport situated just outside. You can easily reach your Melbourne hotel by taxi as it takes only about twenty- five minutes to reach the centre by taxi. Alternatively there is a skybus which runs regularly. Melbourne is also a regular destination for cruises and there is a daily ferry from the nearby island of Tasmania. While staying at your Melbourne hotel you will find that there are many things to do. The people who live in Melbourne are absolutely passionate about sport, and there are hundreds of sporting venues both large and small in the city .Their favourite sport has to be Australian Rules Football, a sort of cross between rugby and soccer with a dash of basketball thrown in occasionally. It is rough and entertaining to watch, and 9 out of the 16 teams who play in the Australian league are based in Melbourne. In summer of course, there is cricket played at the Melbourne Cricket ground and a day at any cricket match where Australia are concerned is a treat for any sporting enthusiast. The Melbourne cup, which is one of the world's premier horse races, is run at the race course in November then in January comes the Australian Open tennis, one of the four grand slam tournament of tennis, which is played at Melbourne Park and attracts all the top tennis players in the world. While the men watch sport, the women can follow one of their favourite pastimes, namely, shopping. You can leave your Melbourne hotel and go shopping for seven days a week. Melbourne is the fashion capital of Australia and as you would expect there are some of the top fashion houses and designers here. You can also get vintage clothing and retro outfits here mixed together in a uniquely Australian style. Some streets are just wall to wall boutiques where you can shop ‘till you drop. There are also cheaper alternatives and if you go into the suburbs there are warehouse direct outlets where you can really pick up the bargains. Australia's largest shopping centres are in Melbourne, including the largest shopping centre in the Southern hemisphere which boasts over 530 stores. Melbourne is a great place to eat with its eclectic mix of food outlets. There is something for everyone. You can eat in your Melbourne hotels and get a great meal, or you can try one of the many ethnic eating places in the city. You can find a really tasty helping of fish and chips. African, Chinese, Greek, Indonesian, Italian and Thai are just a few examples.

Why Wozniacki Is The Real Deal
Caroline Wozniacki may be lacking in Grand Slam glory, but the Danish starlet is yet to reach the pinnacle of her potential – and she's already the best female player on earth.
The bubbly blonde swept to her 3rd title for 2011 on the Charleston clay, solidifying her status as world number 1 and sending a dire warning to her rivals ahead of the European clay court swing.
We already know she can absorb the pace of fast hardcourts and dominate her opponents with guile, demonstrated by her title victories last year in Copenhagen, Montreal, New Haven, Tokyo and Beijing.
And she's already shown the world she can stand her ground on grass, having won Eastbourne in 2009.
With her Charleston title in tow, this vivacious baseliner is on a collision course for her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
Many of her rivals for the French Open crown appear to be ailing. Kim Clijsters has shown questionable form since her triumphant Australian Open victory, and the Williams sisters continue to struggle under respective injury clouds.
And as for the rest of the women's field?
Well, a cavalcade of former clay specialists continue their choking ways and lukewarm form, namely Kuznetsova, Ivanovic, Jankovic and the once-feared Dinara Safina, who continues to battle an unforgiving back injury.
Caroline Wozniacki's game is reminiscent of WTA legend Martina Hingis, albeit juiced up with more firepower and speed (not cocaine, Martina). Her double-handed backhand is one of the best in the business, and her ability to turn defence into attack enables her to outmanoeuvre the hardest hitting of foes.
Even with her stellar results in the past twelve months, something tells me Wozniacki still has a lot of development to do. When she's braided with a bit more muscle, and capable of really pulling the proverbial trigger on-court, big things will eventuate for this prodigy of women's tennis.
She is the current Word No. 1 on the WTA Tour. As of 24 April 2011, she has held this position for 27 weeks. She is the first Danish tennis player to hold the top ranking position and 20th overall.
Since her WTA debut in 2005, she has improved her year-end ranking each year until finishing on top in 2010

Virtua Tennis 2009 (Wii) $10.99 As what passes for the British summer rolls around once again, it's time to start thinking about dusting off your tennis shorts. For many since 1999, this has meant not heading down to the local court to dodge the broken glass and 'dog left-overs': no, it means getting your thumbs on Virtua Tennis, be that in the arcades, on a Dreamcast or on a high-powered next generation console. As the series has done in previous years, Virtua Tennis 2009 offers up a host of real-life tennis stars across some of the most realistic courts to be found away from...well, real courts! The likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are on offer, while you can play as Maria Sharapova against Venus Williams for a bit of classic court action. There are also a handful of new players taking to the court, including Andy Murray and ladies French Open champion Ana Ivanovic. Adding another layer of authenticity, they can all take part in the Davis Cup thanks to a spot of official license grabbing by SEGA. The series has been tweaked in numerous ways, not least of which is the improvement of the online mode. There's a brand new online ranking system, so you can show the world how you've shaped up over the years of perfecting your slice. Court Games make a return, enabling players to test their skills in single and multiplayer modes, not just in ball breaking matches, but also in a host of mini-games. Watch out for crocodiles, fruit and pirates... So, put on your shorts, because you're in for a hot time in front of your TV, if nowhere else! |
