Can I join a tournament without an NTRP rating?

I am just getting back into tennis from when I was growing up. I talked to a guy at the local racket shop, and he said that a great way to meet players is in tournaments. I read over the ratings descriptions and picked 4.5, mostly because the tournament I want to play is either 3.5 or 4.5. I signed up for an NTRP 4.5 tournament. Now... I'm wondering if I made a mistake? Can I just join one of these tournaments like that? I don't have an official rating or anything (though I did re-join USTA).
Thanks for the responses. I guess my questions is not so much whether I will get beat but simply am I allowed to join the tournament without an official ranking? I don't want to show up the day of the tournament and find out I can't play!

You probably did make a mistake if you are just getting back into tennis. 4.5 is an advanced level, where tennis is kind of a lifestyle. You should definately call the club where you signed up and ask for a pro to hit with you for 5-10 minutes so that he can help you with your level. If you haven't played tennis in a long time but you were competitive growing up you could possibly be a 3.5.
As far as entering tournament without a rating, you can enter the "Open" division, the problem with that is most players entering the open division have ratings that are at least 4.5. Good Luck!
