Play Better Tennis in Two Hours $18.95 Can tennis really be this simple?. Just ask the dozens of world-class players who have made it to the top using Oscar Wegner’s groundbreaking approach. But if playing tennis isn’t so easy for you, if you never seem to play up to your potential, don’t blame yourself—blame the coach who taught you a lot of uselessly complex techniques. Play Better Tennis in 2 Hours is your guide to tennis as the pros play it—more intuitive, more fluid, and more fun. World-renowned tennis coach and ESPN commentator Oscar Wegner shows you how to focus your efforts on one thing—hitting the ball correctly. Your own natural athleticism will take care of everything else. Follow the simple drills in this power-packed handbook, and you’ll learn how to: Move to the ball efficiently and fluidly; Stop worrying about foot position and stance; Hit every stroke harder and more accurately; Put a wicked topspin on your forehand; Master both one- and two-handed backhands; Combine control and power on your volleys; Put more speed and spin into your serve and more punch in your return. "Known and respected all around the world, Oscar has given us another great contribution to tennis with this book."—Gustavo Kuerten, three-time French Open champion. "Oscar has broken the mold, demystifying the modern tennis stroke. There's genius in his analysis of pro techniques—the dynamics of what the racquet does to the ball, how power and spin are added. He understands how top pros really stroke the ball, and always have, all the way back to Tilden."—Andy Rosenberg, Director for NBC Sports Wimbledon and French Open |

Tennis Tactics: Winning Patterns of Play (book) $19.95 Match point. Your opponent hits a deep-sliced approach shot to your backhand. To neutralize this attack and regain control of the point, you retaliate with a crosscourt passing shot, low with topspin. Your opponent is forced to return a weak volley to the open court, and you win the point with a passing shot down the line. Game, set, and match. This is just one of the many winning strategies you'll find in Tennis Tactics: Winning Patterns of Play. It's the first book to break down what shots to make and when to make them. You'll learn how to plan your shot selection in competition and put yourself in the best possible position to win every point. Based on an extensive USTA study of actual tournament play by the game's top athletes, Tennis Tactics describes 58 patterns repeated shot sequences that will emphasize your strengths and exploit your opponents' weaknesses. It contains 63 drills that show you how to practice the patterns and make them part of your routine during match play. Competitive players, coaches, and instructors will love the book's simple approach for practice and play. Tennis Tactics reviews sound, time-tested strategic principles, then explains how they apply to patterns of play. You'll learn how to choose patterns that fit your style of play, whether you're an all-court player, a counterpuncher, an aggressive baseliner, or a serve-and-volleyer. Next, the book provides strategies and tactics for different areas of the court. You'll learn how to execute 58 patterns for backcourt (26), midcourt (8), net play (8), and defensive play (16). For each pattern, the book describes and illustrates corresponding practice drills that will help you get an edge on the competition. A Pattern Finder chart helps you quickly locate the shot combinations you want to study and incorporate into your game. Make your practice sessions pay off in competition by using the drills and mastering the patterns in Tennis Tactics: Winning Patterns of Play. AUDIENCE How to for tennis players. I want to play tennis in school next spring, how should i start training?
I've never played tennis ever in my life, but I would like to play next year in shcool. Whta should I do this summer to get ready? Thanks!
Many high schools run summer tennis camps. Assuming you are a high schooler, GO TO THIS. It will give you an opportunity to learn what your coach deems as important. It also gives you a chance to talk to the coach and convey to them the passion that you have to improve. You will practice with future teammates and really get a feel for what you need to be able to do in order to start.
It is also important that you practice doubles. Many people who decide that they want to play tennis make the mistake of only playing singles. They arrive for tryouts only to discover that the only spots available are doubles spots, and they are cut. Doubles and Singles are almost entirely different sports. Good doubles is almost entirely played at the net, so practice your volleys and overheads. Also, WATCH DOUBLES. Many inexperienced players have only seen singles, and have no idea what strategy is used in doubles. If you learn basic doubles strategy and basic doubles shots, you will not be cut. Trust me.
As for physical fitness, work on your core. Aside from that, just play tennis. It gives you a strong cardiovascular workout and helps improve your strokes.
